As a feasibility study Morris Architects Planners has designed a concept for the Court Theatre as part of a larger scheme that included an expansion of the Smart Museum for the Arts in collaboration with Garofalo Architects. Each entity has outgrown their existing facility, and have decided to work together to create a shared civic space amongst their artistic endeavors. The new Court Theatre has a 450-seat performance space with a thrust stage, and true vomitory entrances for the actors. The exist-ing theater space is exposed as an artifact of itself and functions as a rehearsal room, as well as a gathering space. The Court Theatre and the Smart Museum share a common entrance and civic space, and look out onto an open courtyard between the new structures.

Number of seats: 450.
Location: Chicago, Illinois.
