Green Line Performing Arts Center is located at 55th Street and the Green Line elevated train, in Chicago’s Washington Park neighborhood. It’s goal is to introduce live theater into a community that is already supporting an arts incubator, coffee shop and gallery. It will be accessible for neighborhood performance groups as well as casting a city-wide net for small companies needing space to perform or rehearse. The dark brick building has institutional substance of a performing arts center. The patterned, intermittent brick textures soften the building and welcome exploration. The lobby literally opens to the adjacent landscape, soon to be developed as a community park. The building includes an 82-seat end-stage theater, a stage-sized rehearsal room, and well-appointed actor support facilities.
