A registered architect and a USGBC LEED Accredited Professional, Carol McLaughlin is a recent addition to Morris Architects Planners. Carol’s career has focused on sustainable architecture beginning in graduate school while successfully combining her two passions of architecture and the environment in her master’s thesis “A Residential College for the Sustainably-Minded”. As an experienced project manager, Carol has coordinated all phases of design and construction for architectural projects of all sizes. Her passion and knowledge of sustainability has been demonstrated throughout her career.
At Farr Associates, Carol served as project manager for the City of Chicago’s first Platinum LEED rated municipal building, the Chicago Center for Green Technology. In 2003 this project received national recognition as an AIA Top 10 Green Building. Other projects provided her extensive affordable housing, sustainable architecture, and planning experience. Project highlights include Duneland Village, a new neighborhood of affordable housing inspired by the beach communities along the southern shores of Lake Michigan and the Elks Tower Apartments, a historic affordable renovation and winner of the Illinois Historic Preservation Project of the year in 1998. Before joining MAP, Carol managed her own architectural practice allowing her more flexibility to be involved in her children’s lives. Carol’s other interest include running, environmental psychology, ethology and zoosemiotics.
Since joining Morris Architects Planners, Carol has enjoyed using her architectural expertise while learning about the design of contemporary theater spaces. Carol has been an integral team member on the firm’s recent projects including the Carr Residence Addition, the American Blues Theater, Black Ensemble’s new Studio Theater and Rehearsal Space, and phase two of the production center for Court Theatre.
