A renovation of the Diller Street Theater and Art Center for the middle school of North Shore Country Day. The theater space houses assemblies and an assortment of productions throughout the academic year. The needs for acoustical flexibility were achieved using a variety of fixed, perforated, and solid wood panels that oscillate in and out on the side and rear walls.
The Arts Center has been designed to create a more centralized classroom experience while increasing the flexibility of the intended curriculum. Backstage areas for the theater are to be used for both the classroom and production experience. Also included are Art Studios specifically tailored to 2D and 3D mediums and a photography studio. On the lower level the band and drama rooms were designed to create an environment that can be enclosed by glass walls when required for acoustic separation and opened to be combined into a single large event space.
