As we started this project, a google search of the Wausaukee Club yielded an article entitled Republican Communists in the North Woods. Upon visiting the Club, the manifestation of this assertion was the lack of kitchens in otherwise extravagant “cabins”. The communal dining hall is the focus of the 20 or so cabins that make up the 1000-acre club. Situated on Elbow Lake, the original cabin was sited too close to the water, requiring a land-use variance and demolition and reconstruction of 99% of the cabin. The 4,500 square foot new cabin includes an extensive kitchen open to a large living area. The house includes two sleeping porches, six bedrooms, five bathrooms, a loft and angler’s den for tying flies.
